Trudy"s article on soups the other day inspired me to share this recipe. My past post of recipes has not garnered the desired response, so if this one does I'll post some more. GUMBO True Gumbo requires the following; lots of pots, pans, knives, spoons, and kitchen space, not to mention the patience of Job. You start with a good rue. This will be the first t...

This story has more than two legs, but another shoe has dropped. It seems an attorney for one of the players has time dated photo's of the aledged vicitm, bruised, scratched, and rather intoxicated, upon her arrival to the party. The time dating puts her condition existing hours before her reported rape occurred. Hmmm? I wonder if the the media is concentrating on the right "victim(s)"? Can you say,"Tawanna Brawley"?
I'm about to finish up my Masters ( Liberal Studies) and I'm leaning toward going for a Juris Doctorate. I've done well on the LSAT, and can even qualify for a "minority" scholarship at a local "Historically Black" College ( NCCU), it would only take another 18 months, the Bar exam, and viola, I'd be an Esquire. I think I could help in the area of consumer advocacy, particularly in the field of Automobile Sales, particularly with the contractual and servicability issues that arise, not to ...
Rah, rah, uh, oh yeah, it's the women's final four.
I truly believe the turmoil we are currently experiencing in the Muslim World can be directly linked to the mishandling of the division of the former Ottoman Empire. Without a doubt the European victors of WWI looked at the Middle Eastern region as “spoils of war”, with little or no regard for the desires of the population. The 18th century mindset that prevailed, that of colonization and assimilation, permeated all diplomatic solutions that were implemented. The complete dismissal of the...
This was my latest assignment ( I gotta an A ) Write a five-page biographical essay (approximately 1,250 words) on the African American Muslim leaders Elijah Muhammad, Malcolm X, and Wallace Muhammad, describing in detail their doctrinal lineage and their personal relationship with one another. Evaluate their roles in the rise and evolution of the Nation of Islam. You need not limit your reading to what has been assigned; you may visit relevant Web sites or locate out...
Assignment Choice 1 Write a three-page essay (between 700 and 900 words) on the Five Pillars of Islam, describing them, analyzing them (that is, separating different elements and explaining each), and placing these Pillars in their historical and doctrinal context. The first pillar of Islam is the profession of faith. Quite literally a Muslim must profess “There is no god but the God (Allah), and Mohammed is the messenger of God.” By stating this simple verse one becomes a Muslim, and the r...
I wonder....... Could it be conceivable that there is a germ of truth(?)in every religion? Could it be that the root cause of religious disagreement is based more on power and control, than the name of the diety worshipped? You could quite easily equate the difference between a Muslim and Baptist with the differences between a Rolls Royce and a Yugo. They're all generally the same product, providing the same basic service, they differ only in marketing and packaging. Price and q...
Short questions 1 thru 5 1. Explain the three fundamental unities of Islam. This is the belief that the foundation of faith is the relationship between God, all of creation (to include humankind) and one religion. Not unlike other monotheistic religions Allah is omnipotent, unquestionable, and transcendental. Humankind is part of the creation of Allah, and therefore obliged to serve and worship that creator. The only correct or acceptable religious practice is that espoused by the pro...
What were the causes of the crusades, and how were they viewed from the Muslim perspective? From my reading and viewing I have come to the conclusion that the crusades were initially nothing more than desperate Europeans seeking fortune and lands in the Middle East. The leaders of the early crusades were not pious Christians, they were opportunists who were fortunate enough to have a Pope, eager to reassert the power of the Catholic Church, foment religious fervor in the general populatio...
This is one of the many essays I've had to write in my latest class ( REL 501 Islam ), been so busy with school and work I haven't had the time to post, skim'd thru today and saw the fatwah issue developing, so, I thought I'd offer my head as another target ( safety in numbers, eh? ) My reading has included the English synopses of the Koran provided in our student recourses, “Islam, The Straight Path”-Esposito, and “A Concise History of the Middle East”, -Goldschmidt, as well as web based art...
I'm taking a course in Middle Easten History, for points and giggles, I'm posting some of my responses here.. They are at least topical, if not germaine. It will take generations to bring about the acceptance of Western Tolerance. Keys to this will include continued military intervention, concluded with swift democratic reform. Another key to normalization is the acceptance of both Israel and Palestine. This will remove the hackneyed stance of the region, and eliminate a political ra...
I was watching "Lost" last night, during a commercial break on comes a "Diversity Targeted" ad for KFC repleat with 2 older gentlemen of color advising younger men of color that back in the day it was called Kentucky Fried Chicken. All well and good, entertaining at least, BUT then the background music was an instrumental version of "Sweet Home Alabama"........ WTF has Skynard got to do with marketing chicken to minorities ? The song doesn't even reference Chicken or Kentucky !! R...
