Barney Fife, Barney Rubble, or Beaufort T Justice ?
Published on February 25, 2005 By Dynosoar In Entertainment
As I rode into the office this morning I was mildly amused by a JB&B parody of "The Honeymooners". I then sat at my desk, drinking coffee from my "Nip it in the bud" mug, and contemplated the caliber of Side Kicks offered by entertainment over the years.

This includes those characters who were either comic relief, supporting cast, or recurring cameos....

The short list that comes to mind, this early in the morning, is comprised of the following characters;

That whiny rich girl on Will and Grace.
Barney Fife of Mayberry
Burt and/or Ernie
The entire band in The Blues Brothers movie(s)
Gene Wilder in any role
TC of Magnum P I
Huggy Bear of Starsky and Hutch
Joe Pesci's character in the Lethal Weapon Series
Gabby on Gunsmoke ( or was that Roy Rogers ?)
Murdock of the A-team
Bosley of Charlie's Angels ( the series - not the movies)
That Cuban guy who always reappeared on Miami Vice
The big guy on "Everyone Loves Raymond"
The VERY well endowed girl who shares an office with Andy Dick on that office show with the Red head( ? )
Mini - Me
Ralph and/or Potsie of Happy Days
Radar or Klinger of MASH
The techie guy on Alias

Now I'm thinking too hard, attempting to remember all of those supporting characters of note, who out there knows of anyone who deserves recognition or recall worthy of this post ??

Huggy Bear is the greatest sidekick in the history of TV.

Mini-Me is a close second.

Nothing like a pimp and a mute, minature clone for entertainment!!!

Huggy Bear has to be the template of Snoop dog, dontcha think?

joe pesci without a doubt. ook ok ok ok???

But, was Joe entertaining or just iritating, his character reminds me of the little dog of looney tunes fame, hopping all about, kissing up to the big bull dog....

How about Ed Norton on the Honeymooners? Now that's a sidekick! He was sooo funny!

Huggybear, yeah, he's a good mention. TC was very good too.

On Charmed, there's Leo.

Holy memory block! I think we're all forgettng Burt Ward's "Robin" on the old "Batman" series. He was classic!

Tonto?
Ed McMahon?

How about Chewbacca?
Scotty on "Star Trek"? (kind of the sidekick to the "big three" of Kirk, Spock and McCoy)
The maid on "Three and a Half Men"?
"Al" on "Quantum Leap"?
"Sidney" on "The Pretender"?
"Harry" on "Third Rock from the Sun"?

So many good ones leap to mind, it's hard to know where to start.

IF you saw the Movie of Starsky and Hutch....Who played huggy? Snoop Dogg!

Antonio Fargas (actor who played huggy) was his teacher for the role

I agree with helix, gotta do the dead sidekick thing!

From the original list, is has to be Joe Pesci. But all time, Burt Ward as Robin. You can't beat the old Batman series for pure entertainment value.

I'd also nominate Kramer from Seinfeld, but he really became a main character after awhile.

Great additions to the roll !

Tend to not watch Snoop's flix ( I'll fall back on Cheech and Chong for my "head" humour )

As for the side kicks who should die ( a truly agonizing death ) .....Kelli Ripa, the fat guy on "Lost", Randy on American Idol, Uncle whatzisname on BAM, Officer shorty shorts on Reno 911, Eddie Haskill of leave it to Beaver, Marsha of the Brady Bunch, and Giligan....

A few more come to mind

Snyder of One day at a time, Chucky of Rug Rats, and just once more for the sake of finality - Timmy of South Park...

Best sidekick? The hamster from "The Young Ones"!
on Feb 25, 2005
I also side with Rightwinger about Robin. Holy mackerol!

Holy afterthought! Thanks Helix!

How about "Agent 99" from "Get Smart"?

Pam Dawber--"Mindy" from "Mork and Mindy"....I know...she shared top billing, but come on...was she really Robin Willaims' equal?

Lenny OR Squiggy.
on Feb 25, 2005
Lenny !!! The Lone Wolf...( saw him and Fred Willard in a diet soda commercial, at least they're not doing Reality TV )

and Giligan

But if Gilligan died they'd get off the island in two days! So it should have been the finale.
